This Los Angeles-based photographer became an overnight social media sensation after posting a series of images on Instagram which combined traditional 1950's female stereotypes with classic cult horror movies. Christine McConnell is known for her love of all things spooky. She was inspired by the 2006 children's horror film Monster House in which a home comes alive as a living, breathing beast. McConnell spent four days carefully crafting the eyes and fans out of painted foam-core boards while the effect was completed with traditional jack o'lanterns, spiderwebs and giant spiders.
One of her series of pictures saw the 33-year-old going out for a 'date' with Jason, from the killer slasher movie franchise Friday 13th. She poses in a bikini by the lake, while he wears his iconic mask and brandishes his machete menacingly. Her photography and baked goods have helped her to gain instant fame on Instagram with more than 230,000 followers. Among her diverse heroes, she names Tim Burton, Vincent Price, Alfred Hitchcock, and Paula Deen.
In another set of images, Christine combines photography with her other great love of baking, to recreate a scene from science fiction horror Alien.
Christine McConnell gains her inspiration from a great number of sources. Incredibly she is a trained hair and makeup professional, whose baking is just a hobby. Imagine that. Check out her Instagram for more of her work, and congratulations to Christine for being a featured artist and a great inspiration.
